Tropical Plants - General Guide

Welcome to Your Tropical Plant Baby

Your tropical plant is more than décor—it’s a living reminder that care, patience, and consistency go a long way (sound familiar?). These plants thrive indoors with just a little intention. Let’s make this easy.

☀️ Light: Bright, Not Blazing

Tropical plants love bright, indirect light.

Best spots

  • Near a window with filtered light

  • A few feet back from a sunny window

  • Bright rooms without harsh sun rays

Avoid

  • Direct afternoon sun (can scorch leaves)

  • Dark corners (slow growth, sad vibes)

If your plant’s leaves start stretching or leaning → it wants more light.

If they look pale or crispy → it’s getting too much.

💧 Water: Less Than You Think

This is where most people panic—and where I step in.

Rule of thumb:

Water only when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry.

  • Stick your finger in the soil (yes, really)

  • If it’s dry → water

  • If it’s damp → wait

When you water, do it thoroughly until water drains out the bottom.

Never let the plant sit in standing water.

🌫️ Humidity: Tropical Plants Love Moist Air

These plants come from warm, humid environments—so a little extra moisture goes a long way.

Easy ways to boost humidity

  • Place near other plants

  • Keep in kitchens or bathrooms with natural light

  • Light misting 1–2 times per week

  • Set near (not on) a humidifier

Dry air can cause brown tips—annoying, but fixable.

🌡️ Temperature: Keep It Cozy

Tropicals prefer 65–80°F.

Keep your plant away from:

  • Cold drafts

  • Heat vents

  • Doors opening to winter air

If you’re comfortable, your plant probably is too.

🍃 Leaves: A Little Maintenance Love

Dusty leaves = less light absorption.

  • Gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth every few weeks

  • Remove yellowing leaves at the base (totally normal over time)

Shiny, clean leaves = happy plant energy.

🌱 Growth: What’s Normal (and What’s Not)

Totally normal

  • Slow growth in winter

  • Occasional yellow leaf

  • Pauses between new leaves

Not normal

  • Mushy stems

  • Strong odor from soil

  • Multiple yellow leaves at once (usually overwatering)

If something feels off—pause before reacting. Most plant issues come from too much care, not neglect.

Final Reminder

Plants don’t need perfection.

They need consistency, light, and a little trust.

Let this plant sit with you while you sip your coffee. Let it grow at its own pace. And if you ever doubt yourself—check the soil before you panic 😉
